NOTA BIOGRÁFICA

Gianni Montagna completed his Ph.D. in Design in 2012/10/17 from Universidade de Lisboa, Lisbon School of Architecture, and his graduation course in Textile and Clothing Design in 2006 by University of Beira Interior. Is currently Assistant Professor in Universidade de Lisboa, Lisbon School of Architecture. In 1988 he was awarded a scholarship for a design course at the European Institute of Design in Milan where for 1 year I was able to experience different realities in a laboratory and industrial context, in the area of product innovation and problem solving. His research work is mainly focused on Fashion Design, its materials and techniques as a tool and innovative factor to achieve the design experience. With a major focus on knit design he develops research on different areas looking at sustainability as a research milestone and including natural resources of the territory as a focus point for new economy. He has been teaching at FAUL since 1999. Starting with evening courses on Fashion Design, successively moved on to the second year of the Degree in Fashion Design and since September 2016 to the master’s Course in Fashion Design at the same Institution. In the same year he begins teaching in the PhD in Design at FAUL and participates in the PhD Course in Architecture in teaching the optional subject of Textile Materials Applied to Architecture (3 semesters). From 2015 to 2021 he was a guest professor in the PhD in Fashion Design to share the subject of Interfaces for Fashion. In the academic year 22/23 he was a guest professor for the subject of Textile Materials for Fashion in the Degree in Fashion Design at the University of Economics and Human Sciences in Warsaw. In terms of research, Gianni Montagna has belonged to CIAUD as an Integrated Investigator since 2007. He published 7 articles in journals and has 59 published book chapters. He was supervisor and co-supervisor of 19 master's degrees in different institutions, 1 of which is under development. In terms of doctorates, he has one orientation completed, one already delivered and waiting for exams to be scheduled and a third to be delivered in February 2024. He also supervises other doctoral students (four), who are in the development phase. He is Co-organizer of 3 scientific event(s). In 2017, he created, in collaboration with Doctor Cristina Carvalho, the first edition of D_Tex-Textiles, Identity and Innovation, an International Textile Design Conference, which after a break due to the pandemic, will have its 3rd edition in 2024. He is also co-founder and co-leader of the Human Factors for Apparel and Textile Engineering track of AHFE International Conference. Since 2023 he is also co-creator and co-chair of IHSED 5: Fashion & Textile Design for Sustainability and Better Life track of the IHSED International Conference. As Co-PI, was responsible for the Portuguese management of the European Erasmus+ project called R-Youcult: A "room" of their own-training cultural workers for facilitating rural youth culture (2021-1-DK01-KA220-ADU-000033681) and I finish scheduled for June 2024. As a researcher, he participated in the BioSwim- Body Interface System based on Wearable Integrated Monitoring project (eu-repo/grantAgreement/FCT/5876-PPCDTI/70803/PT). The hiWOOL project - Network for heritage and innovation for the future of WOOL was developed between 2021 and 2022 through bilateral community funds EEA GRANTS Portugal and with the reference FBR_OC1_86_ and developed by Associação Salva a Lã Portuguesa. The last completed project where he participated as a researcher was the Biocolour project, funded by ANI Agency National Innovation Project (SI I & DT PROJECT-BIOCOLOUR-Project no. 68924) which closed in June 2023. He has also been an external school evaluator for the Institute of General Inspection of Education and Science of the Ministry of Education since 2021, developing this collaboration annually.
