NOTA BIOGRÁFICA

I am a human geographer, professor at the Department of Human Geography, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Tbilisi State University (TSU). In 1991-92 I was the Swedish Institute research fellow at Stockholm and Lund universities; in 1998-99 – Fulbright scholar at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA, and a visiting professor at the Technical University of Munich (2002-2018). In 2014-2017 I was a vice-rector of TSU; in 2008-2016 - a vice-president of the Geographic Society of Georgia. Currently I am a scientific steering group member for the Scientific Network of the Caucasus Mountain Region.

As an expert in urban development issues and land policy I’m systematically conducting academic research. Over three decades I have co-operated with the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, UN Habitat, UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and other international agencies such as KfW, GIZ, USAID. I am a member of editorial boards of 3 international scientific journals, author and editor of 3 books and more than 50 publications. Fields of scientific interest: urban studies, housing and land policies, sustainable mountain development.
